Fire helmets with text promoting MSA Cairns 1836 upgrade.

MSA Cairns has a New Story to Tell with their 1836 Traditional Fire Helmet.
The MSA Cairns 1010 & 1044 helmets are being phased out, making way for the next evolution in firefighter protection— the MSA Cairns 1836.

The decision to retire these legacy helmets is driven by MSA’s commitment to continuous innovation. The 1010 and 1044 have served firefighters well, but newer design advancements and material improvements have led to the development of a helmet that exceeds the capabilities of its predecessors.

Why Make the Switch?

Why Make the Switch?

  • Lightweight Design
Weighing between 53.6 oz to 63 oz, the MSA Cairns® 1836 is lighter than its predecessors, including the 1010 and 1044 helmets which are being discontinued. This reduction in weight helps reduce fatigue, allowing firefighters to perform better under demanding conditions.

  • Easy to Clean
The helmet’s impact cap liner system can be completely disassembled and reassembled without the need for special tools, making cleaning and maintenance straightforward and efficient. All components, including the chinstrap and comfort liner, are machine-washable, ensuring that your helmet remains in top condition.

  • Optional Defender® Goggles Innovation
The 1836 features the optional Defender® integrated and articulating visor that retracts between the helmet shell and impact cap. This design provides gap-free eye protection that is both scratch-resistant and optically correct, enhancing visibility and safety.

  • Enhanced Customizability
The helmet's six-way head suspension system and adjustable headband ensure a comfortable and secure fit for all head sizes. The ratchet adjustment system allows for quick and easy modifications to fit your head shape perfectly, maximizing comfort and protection.

  • Traditional and Modern Blend
While maintaining a classic American Fire Service style,
the MSA Cairns® 1836 offers modern enhancements
like a high-temperature, flame-resistant shell and a range
of color options, including both unpainted and high-gloss painted finishes. This blend of traditional aesthetics and modern technology ensures that you look professional
and stay protected.

  • Discontinuation Notice
As the 1836 is introduced, Cairns will be phasing out
the 1010 and 1044 models. The 1836 provides superior performance, making it the ideal upgrade for your
fire department.
