Join us in the fight to #EndAlz with your donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, “more than five million Americans have Alzheimer's, and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050.” Join us in the fight to #EndAlz with your donation to the Alzheimer’s Association. 100% of your donation will go to the Association, whose mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. And for us, it’s personal.
This devastating disease has affected us in a profound way: In August 2011, Jim Witmer, founder and CEO of TheFireStore, received an official diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s, which affects roughly 200,000 men and women in the U.S.
“We had been suspicious that there was a serious memory issue for almost two years before that,” said Jim’s son and CEO of TheFireStore James Witmer. “It was becoming more and more clear that some memories just weren't sticking. Shortly after we got the diagnosis, we shared our situation with our management team.”
In January 2013, Jim decided he was ready to share his health situation with the company. Since then, we’ve been raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Association through many channels: the sale of our #EndAlz T-Shirts, our fundraising for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and our “Casual for a Cause” program, where employees can purchase stickers to wear jeans at work. In total, we’ve donated more than $10,000 to the Association. Together, we can #EndAlz.
